Contest Details

‘The Bar’ was selected among 96 script entries in the 1st Annual Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest submitted at The Celluloid Social Club, a monthly screening of independent short films. The Contest was founded by Ed Brando (Paladin Show Services), Scott Campbell (Maxell Canada), Paul Armstrong (Celluloid Social Club) & Aaron Houston (Celluloid Social Club).

‘The Bar’ is a typical boy-meets-girl story involving chicken breasts, pool sharks, and a xylophone. Film noir meets Airplane! This Bar is the place where nobody knows your name.

‘The Bar’ stars Peter Deluise (Stargate, 21 Jump Street), Simone Bailly (The ‘L’ Word, DaVinci City Hall), Nicholas Elia (Masters of Horror, White Noise), Berit Beattie & Peter New (Black Christmas, The Delicate Art of Parking).

‘The Bar’ is written & co-produced by Peter New of Steam Powered Films, directed by Mike Jackson (Dial 'A' for Alphaman, Hooped!, Hell's Habit), produced by Dan Schlanger of Dilemma Productions (The Life & Times of Evelyn Hart), executive produced by Susin Nielsen & Gary Harvey (Robson Arms), filmed by Kamal Derkaoui, production designed by Andrew Li, production managed by Julienne Park. Melissa Perry and Larkin MacKenzie-Ast cast the film. The composer is Chris Gestrin.

1st ANNUAL HOT SHOT SHORTS FILM CONTEST

Vancouver, BC...The Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest, The Celluloid Social Club & Paladin Show Services are proud to announce the launch of the 1st Annual Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest.

The purpose of the Contest is to provide the sponsorship support to an exceptional short film script that might not otherwise have the opportunity to be made into a film. The Contest was founded by Ed Brando (Paladin Show Services), Paul Armstrong (Celluloid Social Club) , Aaron Houston (Celluloid Social Club) & Scott Campbell (Maxell Canada).

Selected from 96 enteries, the winner of the 1st Annual Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest is,

It has screened at Montreal World Film Festival, Los Angeles Shorts Fest, Edmonton International Film Festival, Whistler Film Festival, PuSh Festival, Port Moody Canadian Film Festival, Les 14th Rendez-Vous du Cinema Quebecois et Francophone and the Sea to Sky Film Festival (Winner: Best Comedy).
